About On Japan
Have you ever got to the end of a long, juicy blog post and thought to yourself: why the hell am I doing this? Yeah? So have we. And... well, the answer was usually either "narcissism" or "to avoid doing any real work." Or both. But what if someone were to dangle the proverbial carrot before your nose and say, shit, you could get money for doing this? Not some sinister get-paid-for-writing-what-we-want-you-to-write nonsense, either. Naw: just straight-up cash for hard, honest work. Write something people want to read, and you could earn vast sums. Okay, maybe not vast sums, but enough to treat yourself to a nice meal to reward your efforts.
That's the idea behind On Japan. It's blogging, but not as we know it. We're asking YOU to write about Japan - and it could be anything, from political commentary to your weekend away to a detailed treatise on eating natto for breakfast. Every post gets rated by our erstwhile webmaster on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the mark of truly great writing and 1 generally being reserved for thinly-veiled phishing scams. Actually, we'll probably give those a zero. Writers are then paid for every page view their post gets, at a rate of ¥1 per view for posts rated 10, ¥0.9 for those rated 9, and so on.
At the end of every month, your total page views for each article is tallied and multiplied by the article rating. If this amount exceeds ¥1,000, payment is made via PayPal (sent to your user email address). Otherwise, the page views accumulate until the amount reaches ¥1,000.
Net result: if you've got a bit of talent, you could find yourself on the road to (relative) riches faster than you realize.
